Learning Technologies

At St John’s, new and emerging technologies are promoted to support, enrich and enhance student learning.

The presence and use of Information, Communication and Learning Technologies (ICLT) is an integral part of our modern classrooms.

Technology is embedded across all Key Learning Areas.

At St John’s, we integrate the use of technology into daily classroom practice in a manner which allows students to interact with technology as a regular part of the learning process.

A wide range of technology is used to assist in developing practical and relevant learning skills in all students. We typically use Apple technology as it is functional for educational purposes and is well supported by Catholic Education Diocese of Wollongong.

All classrooms have a television which is connected to Apple TV, allowing seamless presentation of student work and teaching resources. Students have access to devices which support their learning in robotics, coding and engineering investigation tasks.

In Kindergarten to Year 2, all classes have access to a pod of iPads. In Years 3 – 6, students integrate their learning with the school’s 1:1 iPad program.

All students at St John’s also have a Google account from which they can use calendars, publishing and presentation tools, collaborative tools through sharing Google Drive documents as well as access to their own school-based and monitored email accounts.

Digital citizenship is a priority at St John’s, with all students participating in learning experiences that focus on being responsible and ethical users of technology. The school has a formalised program of learning in this area.

A consistent approach to the use of technology and high expectations are paramount to their effective use. See our Student Responsible Use of Technology Agreement, which each student and parent/carer is asked to sign at the commencement of each year.

OLIVER – OUR LIBRARY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

Oliver is our school’s Library Management System. It is fully web-based, so the whole school community can access library resources including eBooks and Audiobooks. Simple, clear search options like dynamic picture searches help young students find books and other resources that appeal to them. They can also choose from a huge selection of background graphics and avatars to personalise their library experience.

Oliver means students and staff can also manage their loans and reservations — anywhere, anytime.
